It was to be expected… By dint of accusing vaping of being a real gateway to smoking, it seems that this may have given the European Union some ideas. Therefore, the European Commission proposed a few days ago to ban in the 27 countries of the European Union (EU) the sale of flavored products for vaping.

The idea is to introduce stricter legislation to discourage smoking even if this would destroy the benefits of a harm-reduced alternative. “Nine out of ten lung cancers are caused by tobacco, so we want to make smoking as unattractive as possible to protect the health of our citizens and save lives” EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides said in a statement. .

“To achieve this, it is essential to take stronger measures to reduce tobacco consumption, […] and to keep pace with developments to cope with the relentless flow of new products entering the market – which is particularly important to protect young people” she added. The proposal will now be examined by the Council of the EU (the body representing the Twenty-Seven) and the European Parliament.

To see if it will only be a question of heated tobacco refills or even e-liquids. If such a decision were to be confirmed, the future of vaping would not bode well.
